The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and Chili Blast Charities Inc. awarded two AEDs (cardiac defibrillators) to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department during the third annual “Day of Dance” on Feb. 27 at Tippecanoe Mall.
Sheriff Tracy Brown accepted the AEDs on behalf of the department during the event.
The AEDs will be placed in two cruisers assigned to a volunteer officers’ program. The volunteer officers respond to emergencies and assist the Sheriff’s Department. With their deployment, the volunteer officers could be the first responders to an emergency medical condition.
The AEDs were made possible through proceeds from the Chili Blast Open, which are donated to the Kathryn Weil Center for Education and used towards the purchase of AEDs to be placed with non-profit organizations in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties. The Kathryn Weil Center for Education oversees the Revive & Survive program, as well as works with other groups who fall outside the Revive & Survive guidelines but are still in need AEDs.
Applications are still being accepted for the Revive & Survive program offered by St. Elizabeth Regional Health. To qualify, the organization must be located in Tippecanoe or Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Warren or White counties and may be tax-based. Qualifying 501(c)3 organizations are encouraged to apply at the Kathryn Weil Center or online at www.ste.org/aed.
