‘Introducing St. Elizabeth East and St. Elizabeth Central’ is November ‘Lunch and Learn’ topic
Sherry Ransom, R.N., vice president and chief nursing officer, and Tom Peck, vice president of plant operations at St. Elizabeth Regional Health, will present “Introducing St. Elizabeth East and St. Elizabeth Central” at the November “Lunch and Learn.”
Ransom and Peck will discuss the new hospital at St. Elizabeth East and various services available at each hospital campus.
“Lunch and Learn” is a monthly program offered by the Kathryn Weil Center for Education – this session will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5.
Lunch is available for $6 at 11:30 a.m. with the free educational program starting at noon. The program will be held at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education located inside the Medical Arts Building at 415 N. 26th St., Suite 400 in Lafayette on the campus of Home Hospital.

Smoking cessation program scheduled
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will present several smoking cessation programs utilizing the Cooper Clayton Method for smoking cessation.
The program consists of 13 one-hour sessions. Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4 to Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 5 to 6 p.m.
The course fee is $60 and includes a take-home handbook. The Cooper Clayton Method is a safe and effective way to help people stay smoke-free for the rest of their lives. The Cooper Clayton Method is a comprehensive behavioral smoking cessation program, based on science utilizing proven methods, which include education, skills training and social support. It was started more than 20 years ago by two faculty members at the University of Kentucky. Thomas Cooper, DDS, a dentist and former heavy smoker developed the program with Richard Clayton, Ph.D., an expert on drug addiction.

New Moms Tea programs for November
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and the Spirit of Women continue to offer new and expecting moms in the area an opportunity to learn in a relaxed environment.
The New Moms Tea meets weekly at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the Kathryn Weil Center for Education, located inside the Medical Arts Building at 415 N. 26th St., Suite 400 in Lafayette on the Home Hospital campus.
Upcoming topics and speakers for November include:
• Nov.5: “Baby Talk: Speech and Language Development” by Glenda Chambers, St. Elizabeth Regional Health Speech Therapy.
• Nov. 12: “You Are What You Eat” by Renee Kidder, RD, CSP, St. Elizabeth Regional Health Food and Nutrition Services.
• Nov. 19: “Just Be Yourself: Overcoming Feeling Overwhelmed” by Char Elle En, ACSW, Flowing with Life Coaching.
Following each educational program, moms will have an opportunity to discuss breastfeeding concerns with a lactation counselor from St. Elizabeth Regional Health.
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education and St. Elizabeth Regional Health are members of the Spirit of Women, a national coalition of hospitals and health care providers that pledge to provide the highest standards of excellence in women’s health, education and community outreach.

Kathryn Weil Center for Education offers tuberculosis instructor course
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will offer a tuberculosis instructor course. The course is held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. Cost for this program is $125, which is non-refundable.
This course provides participants the principles of various teaching methods and the opportunity to demonstrate one’s ability to teach the Basic Tuberculosis Course. Participants must be a health care professional who is responsible for tuberculosis education and who holds a four-year degree in a health-related field or a current Indiana professional license. Participants must also have taken the Basic Tuberculosis and Skin Test course within three years and not less than six months of applying for the instructor course.

Cholesterol screenings scheduled at Kathryn Weil Center for Education
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will offer cholesterol screenings by appointment on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the center. The price is $30 and registration is required. The screening includes checking total cholesterol, HDL, total cholesterol/HDL ratio, triglycerides, LDL and glucose levels. Fasting is recommended as it provides more accurate results, but not required. You are encouraged to drink water prior to your test; black coffee and black tea are also acceptable. A staff member will discuss your individual results.

Kathryn Weil Center for Education offers tuberculosis renewal course
The Kathryn Weil Center for Education will offer a tuberculosis renewal course. The course is from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 19. Cost for this program is $45, which is non-refundable.
The renewal course includes presentation of basic and new TB information, a Centers for Disease Control video and return demonstration of skills for reading and administering the Mantoux test.
